Library will be first solar powered library in NassauCounty
SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. – August 28, 2008 – SunStream USA, The Renewable Energy Company, today announced that it has finalized a deal for an installation of a renewable energy solution with the Franklin Square Public Library. The solution will put a 10-kilowatt solar electric array on the roof of the library at 19 Lincoln Road in Franklin Square, N.Y. It is expected that the 44 solar panels will be installed in October 2008.
The solar electric array is projected to produce nearly 11,000 kilowatt hours of power each year. The power produced by this renewable energy solution will eliminate more than 11K pounds of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere in its first year. This elimination of carbon dioxide is the equivalent of planting a full acre of trees.
“The solar array that will be installed at the Franklin Square Public Library will provide the library with clean electricity for thirty-five to forty years,” said John Tortorella, CEO of SunStream USA. “Importantly, this project also educates and informs the residents of Franklin Square on the value renewable energy - a kiosk in the library lobby will enable patrons to see the amount of clean power that the array produces.”
“We are very proud that the Franklin Square Library will be the first solar powered public library in Nassau County,” said Lisa Paulo, director of the Franklin Square Public Library. “This project will not only help to stabilize our electric costs and save taxpayer dollars, but it also allows us to take steps for bettering our community and the environment.”
Three renewable energy companies went to bid for the Franklin Square Public Library project, and SunStream USA was chosen after an intensive review process of all companies. “SunStream USA has been most professional and a pleasure to work with from day one. We look forward to the coming phases of the project,” added Paulo.
Funding for the solar project was approved by the citizens of Franklin Square at the 2008 budget vote in April 2008. For more information on the Franklin Square Public Library visit www.nassaulibrary.org.
