In an unprecedented display of unity, the solar industry of Long Island, announces the formation of the Long Island Solar Energy Industries Association (LISEIA).
The Long Island Solar Energy Industries Association (LISEIA) was launched at a meeting of over 50 solar energy contractors, renewable energy advocates, and electrical inspectors on January 22, 2008. This is the first time solar industry partners have gathered together to share common concerns and goals for the industry on Long Island
Comprised of over 25 Long Island solar energy companies and organizations, LISEIA aims to assist local communities and utilities to improve the viability of solar energy on Long Island
LISEIA will provide the growing Long Island solar energy industry with one voice - and a focused plan toward future growth. The LISEA membership has elected Kevin Mac Leod as Chairman, R. Sail Van Nostrand as Vice Chairman, Greg Sachs as Secretary; and begun to identify a list of agenda items that will lead to the sustainability and expansion of Long Island’s commercial and residential solar energy businesses.
When asked about the mission of this association, LISEIA Chairman Kevin Mac Leod stated: “The time is NOW for all the Solar Energy Contractors to come together and speak with one voice for our industry.”
Some of the immediate goals of the organization are: to provide input for the upcoming revision of LIPA’s Energy Master Plan; to have Long Island interests represented in the New York Solar Energy Industries Association (NYSEIA) by providing Long Island based candidates for election to the NYSEIA Board; and to help the Spitzer administration accomplish its goal of reducing electricity consumption 15% by 2015.
R. Sail Van Nostrand, LISEIA Vice-Chairman, commented: Long Island’s solar industry becoming organized is long overdue. In the near term we have some catching up to do, especially with the “Green Levittown” and the “Green Long Island” movements; both of which are enlightened efforts, and will be more so with the inclusion of solar electric”.
LISEIA membership is open to anyone interested the Long Island Solar Industry. The general membership meeting is at on the third Wednesday of each month at the Empire Clean Energy Offices located at 1520 Ocean Ave in Bohemia NY 11716. www.LISEIA.org
